It looks like 2016 is continuing its ongoing reputation as the year that beloved music stars die nearly every week. This time it’s Vanity, a one-time protege of Prince’s who briefly became a hot and sexy star as well as the lead singer of her own female singing group trio known as Vanity 6. At one point she was supposed to co-star in Prince’s Purple Rain movie but, for some reason, they had a major falling out. Subsequently Prince decided to mentor another singer named Apollonia and he not only gave her Vanity’s Purple Rain movie role but he also gave her Vanity’s singing group as well. (The group was renamed Apollonia 6.) Vanity, who had been suffering from a myriad of health problems in recent years, was only 57.

While I was a Prince fan, I didn’t follow the other groups he mentored as closely. In fact, the one Vanity 6 song I remember the most from my youth was this song, “He’s So Dull.”

According to various media reports, the one song that was Vanity 6’s biggest hit was “Nasty Girl.”

Here’s another song that was also originally recorded during Vanity 6’s 1980’s heyday but I’ve only just discovered it today. It’s called “Make Up” and it’s a pretty catchy song that sounds like it would’ve been appropriate for an all-night rave.
